About Speakers


pic1Alan P. Spielman is URAC’s president and CEO, and has more than three decades of leadership experience in health care, business management and strategy in both the private and public sectors.  Since assuming leadership of URAC in 2005, Spielman has overseen URAC’s achievement of deemed status for Medicare Advantage programs, the development of a proposed new pharmacy benefits management accreditation program, and initiation of URAC’s Consumer Value-Based Health Purchasing Measures Project.
Spielman came to URAC from Covington & Burling, a global law firm specializing in regulatory matters, where he was a senior advisor for health care reimbursement policy. Prior to that, he was with Medco Health Solutions, Inc., the nation’s largest pharmacy benefits management company, as vice president and general manager for federal programs.  Spielman also held a variety of senior executive positions at the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, including leadership of the Federal Employee Program. 
Spielman began his career in government with the Health Care Financing Administration (now the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or CMS) and the Congressional Research Service.  He holds a master’s degree in health care marketing/management from Loyola College and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Johns Hopkins University, where he also continued graduate study in health economics. Beyond his master’s degree, he has attained the Managed Care Professional designation.

Leyden, RN, MSN is URAC’s vice president and GM Client Services and Chief Accreditation Officer.  Ms. Leyden has been with URAC for six years and has served as an accreditation reviewer and the Director of Accreditation. She was involved in the standard development process for URAC’s new PBM Accreditation, International Accreditation Programs, Disease Management Programs and the URAC Medicare Advantage Deeming Initiatives.
Ms. Leyden is a registered nurse with a Master’s Degree in Community Health as a Continuity of Care Clinical Specialist; with more than over 15 years of managed care expertise which includes; consulting, director of case management and utilization review, Medicaid case management, disease management and quality improvement. Christine has published numerous articles on case management, disease management, and managed care. On a national level Christine has served on President of the American Association for Continuity of Care, and former Section Editor for Pediatric Nursing.  Her clinical background includes National Institute of Health, National Cancer Institute, children’s home care, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.


pic3John P. DuMoulin, MS, CAE is URAC’s vice president of Government Relations and Product Development for URAC, a health care accreditation agency, in Washington, D.C. He leads health policy federal and state affairs strategy for URAC.  Mr. DuMoulin also leads all URAC research and product development for all managed care (HMO, PPO) and care management (UM, CM, DM, PBM) health and pharmacy programs.
Previously, Mr. DuMoulin served for over ten years as lead regulatory and private sector lobbyist for the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Internal Medicine where he led the departments of regulatory and insurer affairs and the physicians practice management center, as well as served as the lead congressional and regulatory lobbyist for all health information technology and reimbursement issues.  Prior to working for not-for-profit organizations, Mr. DuMoulin was a provider relations/ network management professional for Prudential HealthCare.
Mr. DuMoulin was a Pew Health Policy Scholar at the University of Michigan, where he is a Doctorate of Public Health candidate.  He holds a M.S. in Health Administration from the University of Maryland and B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Vassar College, and is a Certified Association Executive with the American Society of Association Executives.  He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the National Capital Healthcare Executives.
Mr. DuMoulin serves on the Boards of several local not-for-profit health services organizations.  He is the Chair of the Board of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services of Northern Virginia and the Chair of the Board for the Northern Virginia Area Health Education Center.
Mr. DuMoulin writes and presents on topics ranging from health care public policy, federal and state regulatory issues, managed care, health economics, health information technology, quality improvement, and accreditation.


pic3Janice Anderson, R.Ph. is URAC’s director of Pharmacy Programs and has been with URAC since 2007.  Ms. Anderson is a registered pharmacist with experience in diverse areas of pharmacy practice.  Ms. Anderson has experience as a practicing pharmacist in both the retail and hospital setting.  She has worked in the regulatory arena with both Medicaid and Medicare Programs.  Prior to joining URAC, Ms. Anderson worked for a PBM and served as Director of Pharmacy Programs for Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.  She received her pharmacy degree from Howard University.

 

 

 

pic4Valerie Nosek, RN, BSN, CPHQ, is URAC’s interim director of Accreditation and has been with URAC since 1999.  Ms. Nosek has ten years of experience in the managed care industry.  She has extensive experience in the development and management of utilization management and quality management programs for group health clients.  She was also responsible for implementing a contract compliance audit for twelve MCO’s providing workers’ compensation case management.  Other managed care experience includes HMO quality management for CHAMPUS.

 

 

 

sandiCynthia E. Whitaker, RN, BSN is a Registered Nurse who founded a case management company which she sold in 1999 after 15 years of practice in case management.  During that time, Cynthia was a founder of the northern California chapter of Case Management Society of America, which she served as Secretary, Vice President and President.  She later served on the CMSA national board as Secretary and later as President.  Cynthia was Vice Chair of URAC’s Case Management Standards Advisory Committee and was later a URAC-trained consultant to managed care organizations seeking CM, HUM, WCUM and DM accreditation from URAC.  She has been a URAC Accreditation Reviewer since 2005.  Cynthia is a highly experienced and sought after author of articles regarding the provision of quality health care services, and has published a number of such articles.  She is also a highly experienced speaker at regional and national conferences, and she has conducted many well-attended and well-received workshops.

 

sandiSandi Greenawalt RN, BSN, MS, CCM is currently an accreditation reviewer at URAC, an independent, not for profit national accreditation organization representing the health care industry. Her career in health care includes experience in critical care and transplants.  Ms. Greenawalt was the administrator on duty overseeing multiple critical care units. She worked in utilization management, catastrophic case management and the coordinator for the transplant network. Ms. Greenawalt was the manager of the compliance department.  She was a consultant for a Medicare HMO.   Ms. Greenawalt developed a disease management program and served as the program manager. 
Ms. Greenawalt has a Master’s Degree in Community Health Administration and Wellness Promotion and Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.  Ms. Greenawalt holds a certification in case management and disease management.

 

joannJoann Genovich-Richards, PhD, RN is URAC’s new vice president of Measurement, and a visionary health services leader who integrates emerging trends with practical organizational designs and implementation plans. Serves as a “translator” between the worlds of clinical practice, business, and health services research in managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders. Creates environments where individuals with a wide variety of skills can develop into cohesive, accomplished teams that balance high-volume production with celebration. Key areas of expertise address a wide range of operational issues including Strategic Planning, Performance Measurement, Clinical Process Improvement, Organizational Design related to the performance of various groups and teams, and active listening systems for eliciting perceptions from both internal and external customers.
Dr. Richards earned her PhD in Health Services Organization & Policy (organizational theory cognate) and Bachelor in Nursing degrees from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. In addition, she holds a Master of Science in Nursing from Wayne State University (Adult Psychiatric Nursing with a teaching minor), Detroit, MI and an MBA from Oakland University, Rochester, MI.
