IanIan Morrison PhD, Author, Consultant and Futurist

Ian Morrison is an internationally known author, consultant and futurist specializing in long-term forecasting and planning with particular emphasis on health care and the changing business environment.  He combines research and consulting skills with an incisive Scottish wit to help public and private organizations plan their long-term future.

Morrison has written, lectured and consulted on a wide variety of forecast­ing, strategy and health care topics for government, industry and a variety of nonprofit organizations in North America, Europe and Asia.  He has spoken to a range of audiences, from the boards of Fortune 100 companies to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing.  Morrison has worked with more than 100 Fortune 500 companies in health care, manufacturing, information technology and financial services.  Recent client sponsors include Pfizer, XL Capital and Kaiser Permanente.  He is a frequent commentator on the future for television, radio, and the print media.

Morrison is the author of Healthcare in the New Millennium: Vision, Values and Leadership.  His previous book The Second Curve: Managing The Velocity of Change was a New York Times Business bestseller and Business Week bestseller.   Morrison has co-authored several books and chapters, including Future Tense: The Business Realities of the Next Ten Years and Looking Ahead at American Health Care.  He also has co-authored numerous journal articles for publications such as Chief Executive, Encyclopaedia Britannica, Across the Board, The British Medical Journal, New England Journal of Medicine, and Health Affairs.

Morrison is a founding partner of Strategic Health Perspectives, an ongoing fore­casting service for clients in the health care industry, along with joint venture partners from Harris Interactive and the Harvard University, School of Public Health, Department of Health Policy and Management.  Morrison is affiliated as a Senior Fellow at the Institute for the Future (IFTF) and its former President (from 1990 to 1996), responsible for leading IFTF's growth and success over that period. 

Before coming to IFTF in 1985, Morrison spent seven years in British Columbia, Canada, in a variety of research, teaching and consulting positions.  He holds an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in urban stud­ies from the University of British Columbia; an M.A. in geography from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and a graduate degree in urban planning from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Spherion Corporation (formerly Interim Services), a Fortune 500 company; and the Health  Research and Education Trust (HRET), the research and education arm of the American Hospital Association.

 


Woodruff Lee Woodruff, Author/Contributing Editor, Good Morning America

Lee Woodruff is a freelance writer and public relations executive.  She and her husband, Bob Woodruff are the authors of In an Instant: A Family’s Journey of Love and Healing, The New York Times best-selling book about their family’s difficult journey during Bob’s critical injury in Iraq while anchoring a broadcast for ABC News.  A frank and compelling account of how their lives came together, were blown apart, and then were miraculously put together again, In an Instant shares how they persevered with grit, but also with humor, through intense trauma and fear. Woodruff and Bob have also established the Bob Woodruff Family Fund for Traumatic Brain Injury to raise money to assist members of the military with cognitive rehabilitation and other care needs following traumatic brain injury suffered in service to their country.

Woodruff recently joined ABC’s Good Morning America as a family and life contributor. Currently, she is also a contributing editor of Family Fun magazine, where she writes about health and travel and serves as a Family Fun spokesperson, appearing on national and regional broadcasts about various topics on behalf of the magazine.

As a freelance writer, Woodruff has written numerous corporate materials and her articles have appeared in Health, Redbook, Country Living, and Family Fun.   Over the years, she has written articles with a personal slant about family life and the often humorous and poignant moments of being a parent.

Woodruff is currently working on her second book of nonfiction for Random House, a wry and witty exploration into motherhood, family, and the complications of husband/wife dynamics.

In her work as a public relations executive, she has over 20 years experience in marketing and PR, including her work with international cosmetic company Benefit Cosmetics and Built NY, a line of home products.  Since opening her own business in 1991, she has handled a wide variety of clients, ranging from the healthcare and travel industries to the electronics to accessories markets
