Episode 3 (6-17-10): Mental Health Parity: What It Is and Why It Matters

During their lifetimes, one in two people will experience some type of mental illness. Historically, health plans have required higher co-pays and applied more restrictive treatment limits on mental health and substance use treatment than on medical and surgical treatment. The Wellstone-Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act ended this practice, and employers that provide behavioral health benefits must now offer them at parity.  But there is also a strong business case for promoting employees’ mental health, and there are many innovative and cost-effective ways to do this. In this podcast, David Shern of Mental Health America discusses the burden of mental illness and the importance of the parity law, and Clare Miller of the Partnership for Workplace Mental Health talks about ways in which organizations can comply with parity and create cultures that support their employees’ mental health.

Episode 2 (12-21-09): They Can Work With That: Pro-Change Behavior System’s Lifestyle Management Programs

Chronic health conditions are the leading cause of death and disability in the United States. To manage, or sometimes even prevent, these conditions, consumers often need to make major changes in their behavior and lifestyles. The Pro-Change Lifestyle Management Program offers a suite of health behavior change programs in seven areas: smoking cessation, weight management, stress management, depression prevention, managing cholesterol, managing high blood pressure, and exercising regularly. All of these programs, which are based on the Transtheoretical Model of Behavior Change, are available to participants both in print and on the Web.

Episode 1 (9-29-09): Preventing Medication Misadventures: The CVS Caremark Drug Therapy Management Program

The CVS Caremark Drug Therapy Management program provides patients with access to specially trained clinical pharmacists for one-on-one medication counseling. Patients with complex pharmacy needs – those on multiple medications or who have prescriptions from a number of different health care providers – can receive individualized telephonic counseling with a clinical pharmacist to review their health concerns and needs, and identify any problems with their drug regimens. A comprehensive electronic record is developed and kept up-to-date for each participant, and participants have regular follow-up appointments with their clinical pharmacists.

For more information on the CVS Caremark Drug Therapy Management Program, please contact Carolyn Stang (Carolyn.Stang@caremark.com ) or Larry Faudskar (Larry.Faudskar@caremark.com ).
