Alan P. Spielman
President and CEO
Alan P. Spielman joined URAC as president and CEO in October 2005. He comes
to URAC from Covington & Burling, a global law firm specializing in
regulatory matters where he was senior advisor for health care reimbursement
policy and the only non lawyer in this 500 lawyer firm. Previously, he
was with Medco Health Solutions, Inc., the nation's largest pharmacy benefits
management company, as vice president and general manager for federal
programs. Spielman has also held a variety of senior executive positions
at the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, including leadership of the
Federal Employee Health Benefits Program and Medicare contracts. He also
held key policy positions with the Health Care Financing Administration
(now the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or CMS) and the Congressional
Research Service. Spielman holds an MBA in health care marketing/management
from Loyola College and a BA from the Johns Hopkins University , where
he also continued graduate study in health economics and has attained
the Managed Care Professional designation. He has published several articles
on health care marketing topics.
