Accountable Care Accreditation

URAC takes a unique approach to accountable care accreditation that is broader than other organizations’ approaches. Rather than focusing just on the Medicare requirements, URAC’s Accountable Care Accreditation builds upon the framework of clinical integration, focusing on total population health and care coordination for improving the health of a defined segment or entire population. This broader approach ensures that patients are more effectively managed across the health services continuum, optimizing health outcomes while containing costs.

Organizations that have URAC Clinical Integration Accreditation are well positioned for the Accountable Care Accreditation, as they will already meet a subset of the standards. Accountable Care Accreditation helps providers address patient centeredness and engagement, health information technology, quality management, population-based risk management and case management.

In addition to clinical integration, the URAC-accredited accountable care organization:

  • Achieves quality improvement goals and reduced costs
  • Strengthens care coordination across a multitude of medical facilities
  • Improves population health management and patient outcomes
  • Increases engagement between providers and the patient community
  • Improves provider profitability through efficiencies, quality outcomes, and reduced costs
  • Implements health information technology systems that support evidence-based care, clinical outcomes assessment, and sharing of patients’ clinical data
