Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Washington, D.C. Aug. 5, 2008 – URAC announced that seven companies have field tested and are in the final stages to achieve accreditation for new programs introduced today under its Pharmacy Quality Management® initiative. The companies participated in URAC beta testing for one or both of the new accreditation programs, Mail Service and Specialty Pharmacy and are completing the process to achieve URAC accreditation.

URAC offers the only third-party, voluntary accreditation program of this scope for the pharmacy benefit management and prescription services industries. All standards within this suite of programs were developed by URAC’s Pharmacy Advisory Committee, which includes a wide range of stakeholders: employers, consumers, pharmacy consultants, health plans, retail pharmacy, pharmacy benefits management organizations, pharmacy professional organizations, labor, and large public purchasing groups.

The companies that participated in beta testing for URAC’s new accreditation programs and the first to pursue accreditation are:

  • CVS Caremark Corporation (Mail Service and Specialty Pharmacy
  • Express Scripts, Inc. (Mail Service and Specialty Pharmacy)
  • Prescription Solutions, Inc. (Mail Service and Specialty Pharmacy)
  • NextRx, Inc. (Mail Service Pharmacy)
  • Prime Therapeutics, LLC (Mail Service Pharmacy)
  • Perform Rx (Specialty Pharmacy)
  • Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy (Specialty Pharmacy)

Several other companies are in process to receive accreditation under URAC’s Mail Service or Specialty Pharmacy programs and will undergo review now that the standards are finalized. Those companies are:

  • Acro Pharmaceutical Services (Specialty Pharmacy)
  • Centric Health Resources (Specialty Pharmacy)
  • Humana RightSourceRx Mail Service Pharmacy (Mail Service Pharmacy)
  • WellDyneRx (Mail Service Pharmacy)

Additionally, the following companies are in process to receive Pharmacy Benefit Management accreditation, URAC’s first Pharmacy Quality Management® accreditation program:

  • FutureScripts (Pharmacy Benefit Management)
  • RxAmerica (Pharmacy Benefit Management)

“URAC accreditation is an opportunity for companies that specialize in these market segments to align their quality practices with industry-recognized standards and demonstrate their commitment to quality,” said Alan P. Spielman, URAC’s president and chief executive officer. “These companies have distinguished themselves by pursuing accreditation in this emerging pharmacy practice area.”
