URAC Names Houeida Saad as General Counsel

URAC – a leader in the promotion of health care quality through accreditation, education, and measurement – named Houeida Saad as its new general counsel. Among her many duties, Saad will be responsible for URAC’s activities in contracting, regulatory compliance, and risk assessment.

“After a nationwide search we are excited to have found Houeida Saad,” said Kylanne Green, president and chief executive officer of URAC. “URAC and the organizations accredited by it will greatly benefit from the skills and experience Houeida brings to us.”

As a member of URAC’s executive team, Saad will serve as the organization’s point person on issues involving contracts, regulatory compliance, risk assessment, and general legal support. She will ensure that URAC’s over 30 accreditation products and its programming comply with federal and state law as well as the laws of the District of Columbia. She will also serve as a policy expert on insurance and other health policy issues.

Saad – an experienced attorney and a Registered Nurse – earlier served as general counsel to Renown Health in Reno, Nevada, deputy counsel and assistant vice president for Inova Health System in Northern Virginia, and associate counsel for the BlueCross BlueShield Association in Washington, D.C. She is a former adjunct professor at the Washington College of Law at The American University in Washington, D.C., and was named Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year by the ADC Research Institute, District of Columbia Bar, and National Law Journal.

Before coming to URAC, Saad had at one point concurrently managed a docket of over 100 legal cases. She brings experience in dealing with the organizational structures of non-profit, association, and government entities. She is also an expert in case management, and has an extensive background in employment and labor issues.

Saad earned a law degree as well as a master’s degree in law and international affairs from The American University in Washington, D.C. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.
