URAC Presents Global Diabetes Management Mini Summit

Program presented October 11, 2012 at the Parc 55 Wyndham Union Square Hotel, San Francisco, CA or via Live Webcast

September 13, 2012 – Washington, DC – With over 346 million people worldwide having the disease, diabetes and its complications have a significant economic impact on individuals, families, health systems and countries.

“With an epidemic as widespread as diabetes, it is important to spotlight the latest information on programs for monitoring and managing the disease and effectively coordinating care, as well as measuring and reporting outcomes,” said Alan P. Spielman, URAC President and CEO. “As part of URAC’s mission to inform and empower consumers, we are proud to be able to help with this cause by bringing together experts from around the world to further the dialogue and look for ways to improve health care.”

The Global Diabetes Management Mini Summit is scheduled for Thursday October 11th from 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm immediately following URAC’s 2012 Quality Summit. For those who can’t join in person, URAC will live stream sessions from the Mini Summit, allowing attendees to virtually participate from their home or office.
Speakers for the event include:

  • Lenore T. Coleman, PharmD, President and Founder, Healing Our Village, Inc. and Executive Director and Founder, Total Lifestyle Change, Inc.
  • Dr. Chris Keeys, PharmD, Co-founder and CEO of MedNovations, Inc.
  • Joshua Klapow, PhD, Chief Strategy Officer, ChipRewards, Inc.
  • Nancy Wertz, RN, MSN, CDE, Chief, Case Management Disease Management & Special Needs Program, TRICARE Regional Office – West
  • Raymond J. Zastrow, MD, Chief Medical Officer, QuadMed

Participants in this program will gain increased knowledge about diabetes management, both domestic and international. Participants also will be provided an update on drug therapy used to treat diabetes and issues related to medication management, specifically diabetes medication adherence and medication reconciliation. This program is pending approval for 5 hours of continuing education credits.
