WASHINGTON, DC – March 14, 2019 – Independent healthcare accreditor URAC opens the proposed Home Infusion Therapy Standards for public comment beginning on March 14, 2019, and ending March 22, 2019, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. “The pursuit of public comment on proposed standards is a critical and valuable function of the URAC standards development process,” says Cheri Lattimer, chairperson of URAC’s Standards Committee. “Each comment is carefully reviewed and considered by the committee as well as by URAC staff. While a careful review of pertinent CMS regulations and the current literature informs the standards, additional input is important prior to publication and launch.”
Program standards for Home Infusion Therapy are organized into four focus areas:
- Practice Management
- Practice Standards, Guidelines and Protocols
- Consumer Safety
- Patient Care
The proposed Home Infusion Therapy standards are intended for URAC-accredited specialty pharmacies as an additional recognition of quality and excellence in handling of medications and nutrients administered in alternative settings that often require specialized equipment and staff capabilities for quality assurance and patient safety.
Following the public comment period and final Board approval, URAC will accept applications from URAC-accredited pharmacies for Home Infusion Therapy v1.0 accreditation as a supplement to their current accreditation or at the time of reaccreditation. Specialty pharmacies seeking initial URAC accreditation may apply for Home Infusion Therapy recognition concurrently.
