Modern Healthcare featured an interview with URAC’s President and CEO, Shawn Griffin, MD, this week, offering a timely perspective on why health care needs strong, independent oversight as artificial intelligence (AI) tools flood the industry.
In this in-depth interview, Dr. Griffin outlines URAC’s plan to launch a national Health Care AI Accreditation this fall, shaped by expert feedback from stakeholders across a variety of sectors, from developers and clinicians to regulators and academic leaders.
“We’re not starting from scratch,” said Griffin. “URAC has 35 years of experience creating accreditation standards that focus on safety and quality. This program is about bringing that rigor into Health Care AI because patients and providers deserve to know someone’s watching out for them.”
He also explains how shifting federal priorities and growing concerns about data privacy, clinician training and equity helped accelerate URAC’s work.
“We don’t want to stifle innovation, but we do want to make sure that innovation is safe, ethical and person-centered,” said Griffin.
