What is URAC Accreditation
Every day since our founding in 1990 as an independent, nonprofit accreditation entity, we have been inspired by how we can help improve the quality of health care.
We help facilitate this by providing health care organizations with renowned accreditation and certification programs that set the highest standards in quality and safety. Our standards use evidence-based measures and are developed in collaboration with a wide array of stakeholders, including health plans, providers and associations.
Utilization review accreditation commission (URAC) is different from other accrediting organizations. Our programs are not prescriptive. This flexibility enables your organization to develop policies and procedures – within defined parameters – that ensure the highest quality outcomes. Additionally, our reviewers are URAC employees, all with clinical expertise, who receive regular training to ensure consistency throughout the accreditation process.
We also recognize the effort it takes you to seek accreditation or certification. This is why we look for ways to streamline our process, eliminate redundancies and shorten our review turnaround times.
Since January 2019, Shawn Griffin, M.D., has served as our president and CEO – and is URAC’s first physician in this critical role. He leads our executive team – which combined has 86 years of clinical experience – with a deep understanding of patient care, an innovative spirit and commitment to improving quality health care for all.
