URAC President & CEO, Shawn Griffin, MD
URAC’s President and CEO, Dr. Shawn Griffin recently spoke with STAT about the importance of launching a health care artificial intelligence (AI) accreditation in 2025. Dr. Griffin shared that even though health care providers and organizations may already be using AI, we don’t yet have the guardrails in place to ensure that standards on things such as HIPAA compliance and liability are met when using AI.
We aim to create the Health Care AI Accreditation to give guidance to health care organizations using AI. Like all URAC accreditations, the AI Accreditation will review how organization implement their policies and procedures throughout the organization. The aim of the accreditation is to ensure health care AI is implemented in a safe, equitable and quality manner.
Dr. Griffin recognized that with AI growing at a fast pace, URAC’s accreditation will evolve and update to keep up with trends in technology and most importantly, to continue to ensure high-quality, safe patient care.
