In a recent Newsweek article, URAC President and CEO Shawn Griffin, MD, shared his perspective on the nation’s growing physician shortage and the need for strategic medical school expansion to improve access to care.
Drawing on his background as a clinician and health system leader, Dr. Griffin emphasized that increasing the number of graduates alone will not solve the problem and that retaining physicians in local communities and addressing working conditions are key to sustainable access.
