Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is the first health plan in the country to earn URAC’s Health Equity Accreditation. Across the industry, health equity has moved from discussion to action. Health plans are building stronger data strategies, deeper community partnerships and clearer accountability for outcomes. This recognition reflects that work in practice.
URAC’s Health Equity Accreditation recognizes organizations that move from identifying disparities to improving outcomes. For Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, that included focused efforts to strengthen maternal health across the state, supporting safer pregnancies, healthier births and better experiences for families. By using data to pinpoint gaps and track progress, the plan built programs that produced measurable results. Those insights can now be applied to other areas of care and serve as a model for health plans nationwide.
‘Improving health outcomes starts with understanding where gaps exist and having the discipline to address them’
“Improving health outcomes starts with understanding where gaps exist and having the discipline to address them,” said Shawn Griffin, MD, President and CEO of URAC. “Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas has demonstrated a clear commitment to doing that work in a thoughtful and measurable way.”
URAC’s Health Equity Accreditation is designed to meet all health care organizations where they are. It offers a practical framework to help organizations understand the populations they serve, identify where disparities exist and focus on the outcomes that matter most to their communities. The approach is flexible and adaptable, supporting meaningful improvements in access, quality and health outcomes across diverse populations.
