We celebrate Disability Pride Month in July, which was chosen because the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed on July 26, 1990.
The law prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities, including in employment, transportation, public accommodations, communications, and in relation to access to state and local government services.
The month is an opportunity to honor the history, achievements, experiences and struggles of the disability community and to celebrate people with disabilities, promote their visibility, and applaud their achievements. July is also a powerful reminder about the importance of disability rights.
