Specialty Pharmacy Continuum reported that URAC’s Director of Pharmacy, Heather Bonome, PharmD, shared how specialty pharmacy accreditation goes beyond meeting licensing requirements and demonstrates excellence in patient care and pharmacy operations at Asembia’s Specialty Pharmacy Summit.
According to the article, “Some of URAC’s standards, for example, require specialty pharmacists to document how they monitor patient adherence, address adverse reactions and ensure business continuity in the event of a cyberattack or other emergency that could disrupt patient care.”
Bonome recognized that URAC’s educational and iterative approach to accreditation allows most organizations to often be successful in their applications. URAC’s desktop review of documentation and further requests for information allow organizations to strengthen their policies and procedures before the final on-site and committee reviews of their applications.
