Jefferson Health is making a difference in the lives of people in their neighborhood by hiring and training local individuals with true lived experience to help their own neighbors navigate the often-confusing health care system. It’s all part of their Community Health Worker Academy. Because these workers come from the same neighborhoods and speak the same languages as their patients, they can help make connections between their neighbors and the care they need.
As a recognition of their efforts in early 2026, Jefferson Health became the first organization in the country to earn URAC Community Health Worker Program Accreditation. The achievement recognizes not only the strength of its training program, but also its commitment to fair compensation, professional support and meaningful career pathways for community health workers. Jefferson Health leaders recently sat down with URAC to talk about how this accreditation helped them build a better program. You can watch the full conversation here.
