URAC Rare Disease Certification

We created our Rare Disease Certification for organizations that rise to the challenge of providing the high level of care necessary to serve patients with rare diseases. If your organization has already earned URAC’s gold star for Specialty Pharmacy, Specialty Pharmacy Services, or Specialty Physician Practice Dispensing Accreditations, then this program could be the one to show manufacturers, providers and patients how you go above and beyond when treating patients with rare diseases.

Grow Your Business and Protect Your Patients
This unique certification was developed with the input of rare disease experts, including NORD—The National Organization for Rare Disorders—to ensure it reflects current and proven best practices.
The certification helps better prepare your practice to respond to what manufacturers of rare disease drugs are looking for.
Benefits
The Certification delivers numerous organizational benefits:
- Demonstrates more customized and high-touch approach to coordinated, compassionate patient care
- Addresses mitigation of risks associated with medication handling and storage
- Validates compliance with regulations, licensing and other regulatory requirements
Certification Process: What to Expect
At URAC, our process is more than collecting metrics and checking boxes. URAC offers your pharmacy a collaborative, comprehensive learning experience, driven by your organization's specific needs.
The program helps highlight the work your organization already does or can help guide your practice as you build the infrastructure to support these patients.

Who May Apply
To apply, an organization must be a licensed pharmacy in good standing, operating in the United States, must hold or be seeking URAC’s Specialty Pharmacy, Specialty Pharmacy Services, or Specialty Physician Practice Dispensing Accreditations and must treat patients taking an orphan medication (a medication without any non-orphan indications). The certification is in addition to these accreditations and will be valid only while the organization actively holds these accreditations.
