Formally recognized in 2008, July is Minority Mental Health Month with two goals:
- Improve access to mental health treatment and services and promote public awareness of mental illness
- Enhance public awareness of mental illness among minorities
Mental health affects us all and everyone should have the right to be heard and healed without shame or judgment. Minority Mental Health Month focuses on a commitment to creating safe spaces for people in communities of color to connect with others who share similar experiences and cultural backgrounds. These safe spaces served as a gateway to vital mental health resources and support networks.
