The Biden White House released on September 9, 2024 its final “Requirements Related to the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act”, which broadens the number of health plans required to comply with parity requirements.
The rule prohibits payers from making it harder for people to access Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder (MH/SUD) treatment benefits than for medical benefits. These final rules will begin to take effect at the beginning of a payer’s plan year, starting January 1, 2025.
URAC’s Mental Health Parity Compliance Guide, ParityManager software solution and accreditation serve as a roadmap for improved compliance with federal and state parity regulations. URAC offers the nation’s only accreditation program for mental health parity.
